I’m (still) suffering from some weird idea – that the adults know all of the answers ;) – like the +60 Chairman of Danske Bank and B&O (our Industrial Danish pride) – not to mention the new CEO at Bang & Olufsen – Tue Mantoni – who was at McKinsey and then – for some insane reason got auto approval in my brain – as the man who can save the already failing company. but But BUT – my brain has cheated itself – these guys are seriously hard – because none of them have a clue about electronics and product – its all management crap and spreadsheets. Today I discovered that their product is solely working on iPhone – yes – iPhone the new Nokia :) – yesterday’s phone… WOW.
Here we go:
I have just spent an evening at one of my few real friend’s house. His wife somehow liked the new speakers from B&O and it was next to me for 5 hours. While looking at this beautiful* speaker – my friend got the idea of … listening to some music. Biig problem – we are both Android users (like +65% of the world smartphone users)….
We tried with all means – while keeping the weird and distracting conversation one has to while needing to connect a device…… we ended up having installed 3 Apps that could not get a soundbite out of the speaker – totally confused and “tech-bitter”….. fuck that. Not even a mini Jack was the way – it doesn’t exist on the creature of a misplaced good looking device in the generation of connected devices.. .
When finally finding a B&O app for Android the confusion was clear. Even though I’m quite technical and my friend is a top 10 tech entrepreneur in Scandinavia (now he will be mad) – We don’t really know what they wanted us to do with the App. Something about adding the loudspeaker as a wifi access point. It never showed up on my list of access points and if it had I’m not sure I would have known what to do with it.
It just feels wrong to sit next to a 2.000$ loud speaker listening to music from your mobile built in loudspeaker. But at least we got some music. Thank you Marie Key …
I’m charging 2500$ pr hour consulting these days – so all in all the 2 hours fumbling with this crap – makes B&O owe me 2.5 of their next speaker – hopefully with Android.
And as for the CEO and the Chairman – Christ…. – they should step away and get a Tech savvy guy – like Bruce H, Tino Svendsen and Jacob Wollf-Petersen from Steelseries.com . They built their company in Jacobs house (like Mr Bang and Mr Olufsen many many years ago) – and Steelseries will have a higher market cap (value of the company) – in 24.36 months… #DirtyHandsOverIndustrialRoyalty
*Disclosure: Johannes Torpe, head of design at B&O & The Steelseries guys – has been my personal friends for +12years .
Sime.nu in Stokholm was a fantastic event for the online and new media industry – the energy is second to none – and ONLY Ola Alverson (and his energy bomb team) can give this event to SPARK as it does… AMASING. 1200 people showing up in the middle of ressesion – and all smiles and power to change is just fantastic.
I spoke first time at Sime 1998 – and I love the show and profesionalism SO MUCH.
Here is some of the video (wacked crazy as it is)
NOTE: I’m not a shareholder in any way shape or form – and not related to Result!!!
I was speaking at the Art Directors Club in Berlin last week – and I got really passionate after a Speakers Dinner at a fantastic club the night before. These guys are all – smart – clever – good at thinking creatively and really (most of them) born to make change. (And they where mostly very cool – but – well – 30% of them not really proud of their work). So I gave this pretty hard – for germany – short pre presentation.
My bonus – was to meet Ralf Schmerberg – the guy behind this amassing Nike Video and the fantastic Dropping Knowledge (enjoy the start video). Im really moved by his way of looking at things – and the impact his visuals have…
I did invested during summer – lucky again…
I here to meet with my fantastic partner Tariq Shaikh. He is one of my very most smart and interesting partners – and his for the last 14months been setting up a very special private equity company – something I cant really go deeper into – but you can see on the website and beneath. Its a really REALY big idea – and very hard for my micro patience – but I cant wait until we can tell more…
“RHT Partners is a private equity firm that brings together top calibre investment management professionals, entrepreneurs and prominent financial backers from Europe, the Middle East and the US in a firm dedicated to creating value through carefully considered investments in selected industry sectors. RHT’s values are grounded in high ethics and its investment decisions focussed on generating industry leading returns.”
I have spend most of my time with Tariq – and he also introduced me to some of the real Dubai natives (whom you NEVER MEET) – and I must say I have been extremely positivly impressed and suprsed how much energy and power and vision – there is behind this GROWTH EMPIRES PEOPLE!
A Record Label for Board Members or Maybe lets call it and Activist Commitment Agency:
Making a 360 board activist
concept for companies with
8-20 world class international
board members in a record label
Full serviced and managed.
During my busniess life – i have never been in a board or close to a board that really worked and moved the business and supported the business to really win/perform/change… Off course its mainly because Im personally so unfocused and low on attention span and bad at details – but I really feel a need for at new way of doing this. And I have decided to LAUNCH a BoardLabel or BoardAgenzy for my own companies/investments (maybe open to others)- so that they will get THE BEST BOARDMEMBERS and BE AS FIT AS POSSIBLE. I think its about being Activist and Acting instead of talking – so I really hope this will fly. I just hired the most powerfull person to run it – and cant wait to tell you more. Only note is – that I really think the Danish Discussion about Cooperate Governance is SICK AND DESTRUCTIVE – specially for smaller companies – so maybe it will be REBEL BOARD LABEL or EXCLUSIVE?
PS. THIS IS NOT EXECUTIVE SEARCH – I JUST HATE THAT WORD MORE THEN BAD BREATH.
*I stole the term “RecorbLarbel for” from N. Reffstrup (the artist formerly known as Navne).
Im was so happy to see that my friend and business partner at Maxthon is now going the the hottest online property on the this planet.
“I am very excited to announce that I have joined Facebook as Director of International Business Development! I truly believe that Facebook is creating a paradigm shift in social communication and beyond, and I am really psyched to be part of this fantastic team and opportunity. “
Dear Valued Readers
Sorry – that I have not been posting so much lately – but off course there are various reasons.
Politics and Impact
Over the last month – I have found myself eating and winning and talking with the top advisor’s (not just consultants) to Nicolas Sarkozy, Angelina Merkel and Hillary Clinton – and even though my only goal is to sracts the surface – and find out whats behind the power structures – I have gotten a little bit struck.
Architecture and Impact
I have spend time with some very very high impact developers and architects – and same story – I got a bit overwhelmed – due to the LONG TERM impact this stuff has. Psoting from Iassons unbelievable villas in Anti Paros
Investments and Impact
I have gone into nearly 75 companies and 95% goes very well – and Im not very needed there. Some would think that I did a smart move – but basically my luck has again striked – and even double since the entrepreneurs and companies who does very well – like me pretty muc hbecause I dont interfere.
Family and Impact
I got over my trouble in december – and spring has been very very good. But now reality and normallity has kicked in again – and I find it a bit difficult. And maybe Im just pushing the speed to much ?
Water and Impact
My water project – is now has interest from the most influencial people in the world – and one of the biggest industrial players in the sector. And again – I´m really really starting to feel HUMBLE – that I cant help to get such traction – after near bankruptcy in January.
This season is NOT my favorite and I really fight with handling my own expectations to life and holidays… Darn I think I think to much – but maybe thats normal for people who promotes Act – don’t talk :)
I just understood (a bit of) http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/apollo/
sorry to be so late :)
Im sometimes sorry not to be a techie – then I could play with this without having to bribe friends. Im looking at a interesting company now – and to really undferstand it – my friend Erik Xyz (he does not like references) is doing some due diligence – a therefor send me this Adobe Apollo Demo Video – and this from good old Lynda
My friend Allan Pichler did already start mumbling about this 6 months ago – but I was blank – Im actually very often late. But this things is THE KILLER TOOL for all students and 1-2 Mann Armies who wants to do an app or a small bizz. Im looking forward to see killer app and good execution on this stuff from cratives, designers and highIQ programmers – hopefully in colaboration.
Tommy (CEO @ Zyb) is the proof of investeing in people and gutfeeling. I meet Tommy summer 2005 – thanx to Nicolaj Refstrup – and I was 100% convinced that I wanted to work with him after 5min. Now – nearly 2years later- one time bankrupsi – he has proven to be a FANTASTIC LEADER – and inspiration to the now 20 people working at Zyb. And Zyb has been awarded best startup in Denmark and Red Herring Top100 European company. And Tommy is still only using 20% of his potential ;) – I FUCKING LOVE IT !!!
I have never seen an advertorial on travel done so well – and then by NBC in primetime ;). This is one of my best ventures!!
Its ll about luck!
One of my startups is VERY SUCCESFULL – but it takes a positivist to get it:
They make NO MONEY
They use 200.000€ every month
Their product is free
They will go technically bankrupt in may
Wierd – weird – They are a TOP 100 Company in Europe
– and the team is amazing – and will succed and EVERYONE wants to finance them.
Im thinking a lot about what the Big Plan is – when you are involved with 50-60 ventures. And it looks more and more like having something to do with revenue…
A new category is defines online – converting PDF into Flash Magazines – nothing revolutionary – but sometimes VERY handy – at least for your inbox ;) I met the PageGangster guys – and found the vision VERY interesing
As an industry it seems like revenue is catching up – www.zmag.dk – claims to do 200.000$ pr. month and opens offices all over Europe.
The best technology event in the world – is now ready for 9.0 – come to Copenhagen – and give yourself the pleasure of NOT UNDERSTANDING EVERYTHING – and bump into people you dont met in other fancy smancy conferences. This is real. And a product of Denmarks Mr. Visionary – Thomas Madsen Mygdal
The best thing about Reboot is – that some people DONT LIKE IT – only in Danish
I was posting for talent the other day and I forgot to say how proud I am to work with the best talent already. So I wrote to the leading Danish business magazine to put these guys into Top100 Talents – www.bny.dk. These are only Danes.
Tommy Ahlers, Zyb.com – 31
Well – this guy was a shooting star at Mckinsey (top lawyer with a first class degree) – who chose to ditch a very promising carreer with them in favour of starting his own business. The fact that the first incarnation of Zyb didn’t work, did not break his spirit and he stuck with it – which has resulted in him now dominating the mobile backup market in Europe (having signed 5 operators and more than 100.000 users). He will become one of the greats. Zyb is funded by www.nordic.com – backed with a lot of cash – and is being courted by some of the biggest venture capital funds.
Mogens Jakobsen – 29
Mogens is the youngest partner at Dangaard Telecom (turnover>2Bn USD) and now part of Brightpoint – where he runs one of the most promising business units. Pretty simple story really: This guy is a MEGA star. He is easily a top ten talent in Denmark – primarily due to his amazing insight into the global market for MVNOs.
Nikolaj Refstrup, Spleak.com – 32
Nikolaj has a background in the venture sector and has founded Oryx Invest – which has delivered 2-3 big success stories since DotCom. Subsequently he wanted to get his hands dirty and founded SPLEAK – the chat-robot which is taking the world by storm – with more than 1 million users. – As CEO Nicolaj has orchestrated and amazing transition from a vague idea on a piece of paper to a truly international business with offices in Copenhagen, Delhi and San Fransico. Nikolaj has independently attracted some class A investors including the Clausen family (Danfoss) IU and DFJ who have all chosen to invest in the company. An honour bestowed on very few. This guy is amazing with XXL in empathy and of truly international calibre. Beyond Spleak Nikolaj has investments in the fashion industry, leisure property in Nicaragua (must be a future) and has is very well connected internationally.
Theis Søndergaard, co founder Bullguard 30
Theis is a journalist by training – and was one of the guys who helped start SMS AS, whilst studying. He founded BullGuard with me in 2002 – and has been the company CTO since then, with responsibly for the BullGuard development team and products strategy, playing a key role in making the company what it is today. Antivirus software is a very serious game. BullGuard’s cutting edge security software in addition to its amazingly advanced backend has made it the choice of some of the biggest PC builders in the world – and the man behind this is Theis. He is one in a million – They do not come sharper or more capable than this.
Morten Wulff, Traceworks – 30
Has built traceworks fra scratch – 3 years ago he placed his bets on an industry which, at that time, didn’t even exist. His foresight was spot-on and Traceworks will break through 20 mil USD in revenue this year. Mark Kharazmi og I have just assisted in closing a large capital investment in the company along with the leading Nordic VC fund. Morten is a visionary and a good humanitarian – but what makes him truly great is that he understands the realities hidden behind the pop and makeup which is web 2.0
Mark Kharazmi, LundKenner – 33
Is a Partner in my venture company (not capital) and has at a very young age already tried what very few ever get to try – starting Nordic Venture partner (as an intern), CFO for Dansk Droges activities in Poland – og now Partner at LundKenner. He continuously keeps an eye on 7-8 companies and assists 2-3 early startups on taking steps towards international maturity every month.
Jacob Langemark,CEO HelloGroup – 35
Was a textbook definition of a “flyer” at Unilever – but chose to do his own thing. After two failed attempts he found the rhythm at AdTomic (Where he as CEO and Partner grew the business from 5-30 Mil DKK in revenue.) – and has founded www.hellogroup.com which must be THE fastest growing advertising and consulting agency in Scandinavia. 45 employees and and 25 Mil DKK in revenue since launch in July 2006. Beat that! The client list includes: SaxoBank, Adobe, Zecco, NyhedsAvisen, Fidelity, BullGuard…
Alexander Staun-Rechnitzer*, COO bullguard.com – 31
Comes from the murky world of international organisations where he was working with some of the leading players in international politics as a go-fix’er dispatched to many quite uncivilised places. From this he joined BullGuard as PR Manager, but has over the last 3 years worked his way up to the role of COO – where he runs BullGuard operations in 8 countries and refers to CEO Heini Zachariasen. He will become one of the greats and his 50% British pedigree and discipline is unbelievably refreshing in very “down to earth” Denmark. Truly international talent.
Christian Jebsen, Vækstfonden – 35?
Christian is extremely close to becoming one of Denmarks best venture capitalists. His background from a gigantic American startup which spent 80million USD (don’t know their name) – has given him an intimate knowledge of the business, which can be matched by very few. With the founding of Vækstfondens new BlackStone foundation – where Cristian will become a Partner – I believe we will see his name mentioned quite a few times in the coming years.
Today I was at BoostCompany – the LundKenner of Amsterdam – setup by Pier and Wouter. And I must say – that I thougth we where fast moving in LundKenner – but compare to Boost we are walking in glue.
TravceWorks is a REALLY COOL company – with two fantastic founders. They have a job – if anyone should be interested.
Borsens Nyhedsmagasin (Danish Forbes”wanna be”) did their yearly 100 talents – and smartly selcted both BullGuard CEO Heini – and my friend (and Neo Ideo partner) Jimmy Maymann as hot shots ;). No wonder.
